100 Things I Love this Week Part 3- Wedding Stuff

51. Jill at Shear Expressions in Franklin PA- If you need an updo for any reason and you are in Franklin, you would do yourself a big favor to go to Jill. She is so fast and she does a really beautiful job. I am so glad that we went to Shear Expressions for our wedding hair-I have been in plenty of wedding where the hair made things run behind, but they went so fast that we actually started the day ahead of schedule! It was a wedding miracle!

52. My whole Bridal Party's hair- I mostly just let the girls do what they wanted, and everyone looked so beautiful. I hope they felt that way too, because who likes not feeling pretty when you put the effort in? I thought they all looked gorgeous!

53. Princess Cupcake Charm- A Little nod to original wedding theme (Disney Princess/ Seven Deadly Sins at the FHS Track with a wheelbarrow and Celine Dion). Mostly, they fell apart or got lost, because apparently the charms weren't made to actually be used, but they still made me happy. And I got to kick mine to Shell once it fell off.

54. Technology- There is a lot to be said about Aunt Ann not being there, but being there for decorating, for getting ready, for the ceremony, and for the reception. Even if she just looked like a phone with a pretty cool white cover. I know it's not the same as the real thing, but it is a whole lot better than nothing, so I will be thankful for it forever and ever.

55. Getting honked at by cars- it cracked me up. It will probably never happen again for a happy reason, not a mad reason, so I enjoyed it.

56. Getting our picture taken on my grampa's antique firetruck- My grammy was not too excited about the idea when I asked her, but both she and my Grampa looked pretty excited about it on the day, and getting those pictures there will mean more to me than pictures at some random place that is just photogenic. I am lucky that people will humor me!

57. Having liturgy we really cared about, and a priest who really seemed to care about us- I loved that Bishop Sean was so open to our changes in the liturgy, because the politics inherent in their wording meant so much to me. He was also extremely caring in the last few weeks leading up to the wedding. But one of the very best surprises of the day was  Bishop Sean's homily. I didn't know it, but I had taught a devotional on one of the same texts we chose, so he spoke about what i had said as this high schooler on a mission trip and applied it to some of the things we had insisted our wedding was about. It was an important reminder of the things that matter to me, which surprisingly haven't changed that much since I was 18. It was just incredibly special, and I will remember it forever.

58. The Boy's cousins at the wedding- Is it a pleasure for every bride to see their new in-laws get into the party? Because if only Josephine and Nonno had danced, I think on some level the party would have been a success. I felt it was a major win that they all at least seemed like they were having a good time.

59. These asparagus- this is definitely in the top ten wedding decisions we ever made. They were delicious, and phyllo-y, and cheesy, and amazing. And my Nana was the best and saved me some. I only have good things to say about all of our vendors, but JPC was really the bomb and the food was ridiculously delicious. I didn't hear any complaints. And if someone had complained about the asparagus I would have made them leave! (I kid)

60. And while we are on the subject of how awesome JPC is, I have to say I loved all the flowers too. They really made some gorgeous miniature centerpieces and I loved our bouquets as well. I was just so happy to see how beautiful they turned out, and I loved all the little vessels they dug up for the flowers as well. I have to say, no that I am slowly gaining some perspective on the event, having great vendors really makes a world of difference, and pretty much all of ours were the bomb.

61. Marrying into a family where the Cousins will lovingly help me pick the bugs out  of my dress- The thing turned out to be a bit of a cesspool. But a very pretty one, so I won't complain too much. And I love the Boy's cousins Kristy and Kari, who got in there and picked them out.

 62. Chalk and big fluffy white dresses- Mostly I am just happy they talked her into wearing that thing at all, because when we tried it on her she was not having it. Even a little. She apparently freaked out the morning of the wedding too, but with a little encouragement from her dad, she held it together, and she rocked the dress most of the day. Pretty much the cutest kids in the whole world.

63. Bullyhill Brass- Hearing "Wolverine Blues," even from a distance across Anchor Village, just makes me smile.  Same with "Just a Closer Walk with Thee." The sounds of these guys playing are just pure happiness and home to me.

64. Doing family pictures at Cocktail Hour- Sure it made things a little more frantic, but it also marked out a chunk of time with each branch of the family once everyone is already feeling festive and fun rather than stuffy. I would highly recommend this strategy to people who really don't want to spend their day stuck in the church taking pictures.

65. Cornhole- My nana and Poppop made the set and it was a big hit I think. I never got to play at the party, but it looked like someone was always playing!

66. This man's dancing- Amazing.

67. Jeremy Ganss- I think I will write specific notes for all the vendors later, but JG didn't even play ABBA, and I still love him. He was on point all night, never played one of those songs that cleared the floor, and genuinely seemed to be having a good time himself, which makes a big difference. Best DJ ever!

68. Also, our photographers. They made us robot heads, and they were amazing. They also actually already put up a blog of our pictures, which was totally unexpected, but is why we can show some of those pictures here! Check out the blog at http://www.firstblushphotos.com/blog/?p=1435 !

69. The Photo Booth Pictures! We got these back the next day and I love them so much they make me want to cry. I am just so happy to see everyone having a good night and I wish I had just camped out in there all night! My biggest regret (well, tied with that I never fixed my bangs!) is that I didn't get in here with my cousins.

70.  The lego cardbox- it turned out to be a real tour de force. I am pretty sure no one has ever seen a cardbox like this one, so I am pretty excited it came out so weird and wonderful. Well done to the Boy and all his brothers, biological and honorary!

71.  Reuniting with former tutors! Just seeing all these faces made me smile, and they were such a fun addition to the wedding and reception. Hoping that things go according to plan, and this wedding kicks off real planning for an annual tutor reunion!

72. Glow Bracelets- Why do they make people so happy? I truly have no idea, but man, they were all over them. Definitely a good investment.

73. Our dance floor! My dream was that it would look glowy and magical, and it looked glowy and magical. Kudos to my dad and pretty much everyone at decorating for making it happen, but as the sun went down it became really clear that we had made something awesome! I was pretty excited about how it all turned out, not to toot my own horn, but this was one of the coolest parts of the party, I think.

74. Having my Bridal F-ing Powers for one day- I never really got into the center of attention thing, but I did love that badass things can happen when you are a bride! After the reception my dad realized he had lost his car keys, and after excessive collective fretting, a call to AAA, and lots of walking around with cell phone lights, I was walking out to talk to my dad and I just stepped on them. It was AWESOME!!! I never have that kind of luck, but that day I did, so yay bridal powers!

75. The Boy- Ok, I promise to keep the gushing to a minimum, but I am pretty excited to have signed up for a lifetime with this person. Anything good that came out of this wedding, at its root, comes from a partner who said " Sounds cool, how do we make it happen?" I feel like it shows one of our most formidable compatibilities; I am always plotting an adventure, and he is ready to help make it happen. Plus, he has great dance moves, real confidence, and looks pretty damn cute in a bow tie and suspenders.

3 Things I Love Today

1. Watermelon Granita- We watched my cousin Natalie make this while we were home, and we really wanted to try it! We started this process last night, and we have a really great/ not too bad for us treat today! This is a perfect summer treat, kind of like a snow cone made of fruit. Also, I am no cook, but I could even do this myself, so if you are the dessert person in your house, like me, this is one to try. Here is the recipe:

You will need:
         1 cup sugar
        3/4 cup water
about 5 lbs worth of watermelon, cut into bite size pieces
         2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

1. In a 2 quart saucepan, combine sugar and water; heat to boiling at high heat, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Reduce heat to medium and cook for 1 minute. Set saucepan in bowl of ice water until syrup is cool.

2. Meanwhile, puree the watermelon chunk in a blender or with a mixer until they are smooth (basically anything that will turn it into watermelon mush will work). With spoon, press watermelon puree through a sieve into a large bowl. Try to discard fibers and seeds.

3. Stir the syrup into the puree; pour it into a 9 inch square pan (we used a glass one). Cover and freeze for 2 hours. I would suggest now that we've tried it, that you pull it out an hour or so in and rake it through with a fork. It will help it not be one mass when it is time to serve it.

Also, this makes a lot (like 9 cups), so if you went for a half serving, I certainly wouldn't judge you. Still, all in all, I would label this one as a very refreshing win!

2. Our new lamp! The Boy's friend Richie made us this amazing lamp as a wedding gift- we got it yesterday and put it together tonight. It is so beautiful. A little bit deco and a little steampunk, it is a hardcore Etsier's dream lamp. I am obsessed with its ridiculous amazingness. It feels like one of those things we will have forever, and it is even more amazing because he made it himself. You have to feel lucky to have friends like these! The one on the right is the picture of the day, but I think I may be deciding that this mission could end up being too much information that nobody cares about.

3. Being John Malkovich- Watched this movie this afternoon while I was trying to edit our thousand some wedding pictures (finished all the ones we have so far!). It really stands up, and it is as weird, smart, and just fun as any movie I can think of ever. I love love love Charlie Kaufman. And John Malkovich gives one of the weirdest and most amazing performances ever in this movie.

It also boasts really strange and wonderful performances from both of its female leads- Catherine Keener and (probably my favorite performance from her ever) Cameron Diaz (in fact, it is kind of odd how narratively superfluous the seeming protagonist of this story ends up being. He is sort of the catalyst and nothing else, which is part of what keeps the story so fresh and unpredictable). This movie has all sorts of weird gender politics going on as well, though I think the potential of that is not totally realized.

Anyway, this movie is awesome. Not my favorite Kaufman movie, but in the top 3! And definitely the most fun while maintaining a philosophical perspective.

Bonus: This beautiful picture of two VERY beautiful women! So, my phone seems to have really died this time, but the boy revived it just long enough for me to get this picture from my Mom. I just think they both look so pretty and I hope they were happy to be spending time together!

3 Things I Love Yesterday

from www.vulture.com/2011/

1. Season 4 of Parks and Recreation on Netflix- I'll be honest, it was my least favorite season thus far, but on second viewing I am already deciding there are some definite gems there that I missed the first time. Plus, it is one of the only actually feminist shows on tv, and it really waves that flag in this season. And if the last episode doesn't make you cry, you have no soul! If you aren't watching this show, you are straight up crazy.
2. Accidentally falling asleep at 8:30 at night- apparently getting married does turn you into an old person. At the very least, it leaves you jet lagged and exhausted. Hopefully, we will turn this around soon, but I do find it kind of cute now.

3. The Amazon reviews of BIC's extremely embarassing "For Her" pens-  If only every time a corporation stupidly tried to pander to a fantasy female market seemingly made out of 13 year old girls and Barbie Dolls-I find it wildly comforting that so many people find this ridiculous. Now if we could harness that energy to fight all the crazies trying to take away women's rights. Here are a few of the gems:

"As if men hadn't been stripped of everything good already, BIC steps in and piles on by encouraging women to learn to write, just like their male counterparts. JohnnyTubestea
" Finally! For years I've had to rely on pencils, or at worst, a twig and some drops of my feminine blood to write down recipes (the only thing a lady should be writing ever). I had despaired of ever being able to write down said recipes in a permanent manner, though my men-folk assured me that I "shouldn't worry yer pretty little head". But, AT LAST! Bic, the great liberator, has released a womanly pen that my gentle baby hands can use without fear of unlady-like callouses and bruises. Thank you, Bic"

"Ok, I've always had this habit of tapping my upper lip with my pen while I think of things to write. I've also had a problem with thick dark hairs on my upper lip ever since high school - I just figured it was a hormonal thing. Well guess what?! It was those stupid man pens I had been using!! Shortly after using the Bic pens "for her" the hairy lip problem disappeared! Thank you so much Bic for solving this embarrassing problem for me. I can't wait to crack one open tonight and smear the ink on my husband's skull to see if it cures male pattern baldness."

"It's a great product but it's missing something.. I can't wait for them to come out with Bic for her with Wings"

"It only has 78% of the writing power of For Him pens. After extensive use it's still unclear whether this handles all writing, or only "legitimate writing". Also an awkwardly excessive ink flow after the end of four weeks"

"I was so tired of ruining all my lip-liner pencils to write checks to my Avon lady and suffering the embarrassment of pulling out a MAN's pen at the beauty parlor. Now with a pen made with MY feminine needs in mind, I feel more confident in every aspect of my life. My cakes are fluffier, my casseroles crunchier, and my are floors cleaner! When my husband gives me my allowance next week, I'm going to buy a second set of these lady pens and use one to sign the credit slip on a brand-new hat to match. Won't the girls at the next bridge game just be green with envy?"

3 Things I Love Yesterday

from www.delivermediamonds.com/tag/ann-romney-jewelry/
1. The discourse on Ann Romney's speech this morning- I find it very bizarre that her speech has garnered so much attention, but the mixed reviews are especially confusing. Either she redeemed herself after being wildly unlikable the majority of the campaign thus far, or she alienated even more of the moderate voters. Never has publicly declaring one's own husband a sweetheart been more contentious. I am not sure where the truth is in all of it yet, but it is a pretty interesting set of dynamics in play there.

2.Pictures from the photo booth- I love them!!! My biggest regret is that I didn't do more of them, especially ones with my cousins, but it is so fun to see the pictures that everyone came up with.

3. The Penn State Bowl! We went to make Watermelon Granitas last night (I will let you know how it came out), and the Boy noticed that the bowl had a crack in it! This bowl was the only one I had for probably the first 3 years of living on my own, I made waffle batter in it everyday, and now it is mostly used or defrosting. Now it has eaten the dust. So sad!

100 Things I Love This Week Part 2- Decorating and Rehearsing

26. Tall Ladders- Essential to any good wedding. Also, pretty treacherous, since one of the valiant members of ladder team two was actually shocked by lights! Still, I am positive that the key to our wedding's success was those ladders.

27. Liam as a helper- Shell and Micah brought the baby with them, which provided lots of extra cuteness (and he is such a good baby). My Nana was all over watching him, and you could tell she was genuinely having a good time.

28. The photo wall- Natalie and my Dad were all over it, and it really looked great. Here is Natalie trying to figure out how to cover up the wire with ribbon. It is very nice to have an artist as a cousin on days like that one!

29. Big Rock Tissue Mountain- Jenny was fluffing all day, and before these bad boys went up, you couldn't even see her. Those are her feet at the bottom. Jenny's feet alone make this picture amazing.

30. Anchor Village's lattices- Ok, I am lying. Those things are fugly, but they do cover up uglier things and we did get to use them in a pretty cute way. If you are having your reception at Anchor Village, bring white paint with you! And probably power tools, because those things are falling apart.
31. The giant bug living on the junk that the last group left on the lattices. So Gross. It's when you are pulling off your 3rd or 4th grasshopper you start really doubting your decision- but it all turned out, so now their memory is endearing.

32. Sweet Basil Pizza- Sweet Basil took over the old Pizza Hut in Marian, and that is where my Mom went to get food for everyone on Friday. The pizza was all so amazing. If you are taking the drive between Eastern PA and Franklin, I would highly recommend this place. Hit the spot. She got a ton of pizza and we pretty much finished it.

33. That Jim McGee showed up as we were cleaning up and getting ready to go. Now that is some good timing. He did move one table and pretend to put up one flower, so that is some quality groomsmenning.

34. This picture of the Boy and Carlo as kids. Specifically, that they are wearing sweatsuit outfits and putting hands on each others thighs. Mrs. Alfeo swears that she was sick that day, so she takes no responsibility for it.

35.  The Dance floor ceiling! My Dad figured out how to put it up, and it really did look amazing and beautiful. As each puff and lantern went up, I just got more excited about how it looked.

36. The Congradulations sign- Courtesy of my Sister-in-laws. We are an odd group, but this cracks me up!

37. Having my brother with me- You can't do anything this big without your sibling. Mine is the best! He had about 48 hours in Franklin to be there for all of our wedding stuff (he had to leave LA while training for a new job and moving into a new apartment) and I couldn't have appreciated it more. Plus, I thought his rehearsal outfit was pretty sharp.

38. This bridesmaid/groomsmen combo. We had a lot of short girls and tall guys, but this is my favorite/ most dramatic combination!

39. The rehearsal bouquet from my Aunt Ann- She couldn't come in the end, but she got me a small bouquet for the rehearsal as a surprise, which was just so sweet. It was a nice way to feel like she was with me and thinking of me because I was definitely thinking of her and wishing she could be there with us! I missed her so much, but she was so sweet and thoughtful toward me, even from a distance. Also, the bouquet was really pretty.

40. Ok, I wasn't thinking ahead so I didn't take a good picture of the food, but AmaZing Food Catering did an awesome job, and I was especially obsessed with the tortellini which were green and had cheese and were freaking amazing. Shame on me for saying we should just do pizza, because I will be thinking of that tortellini for the rest of my life. Maybe I just loved the carbs after lunch, but I was really excited about the food (and I wasn't the only one who came back for seconds!).

41. This Picture- These two are my family and my home and it made me so happy to see them hanging out and being together! Love them so much! Also, my brother is another sucker for babies, so that was cute too!

42. Black light bowling- Nothing says the solemnity of marital commitment like Pam's whole body glowing under the lights while we all bowled.  If you are trying to think of a good pre-wedding activity, I would recommend bowling, though I think I might tell the bride and groom to not commit to actually bowling.

43.  Seeing old friends who I haven't seen for a while- Even better, seeing them bowl and interact with other people from the past. One of the most fun parts of wedding festivities.

44. The church dress/ bowling shoe combo- this look is going to blow up. They looked even more amazing glowing in the black light.

45.  This picture- just another good one. I love their dance together!

46.  That Zach broke a bowling ball- That's power. He actually put a huge dent in the ball. He seemed pretty proud of it too!

47. The Old Timey phones in D'Casa B& B- we tried them all. They were pretty amazing. The whole B& B has new ownership and they redid the kitchen. It turned out to be a great home base through wedding festivities, and we liked playing with all the old stuff in there! The hour after bowling we ran around a bunch and I think got out some energy playing and exploring the space. It was so fun!

48. D'Casa B and B's kitchen- It looks like a kitchen in a magazine. I am not sure I have ever been in such a fancypants kitchen before in my life. We were really impressed by it!

49.  Late night conversations with these people- such a fun night!

50. Waking up to my Dad playing the "It's your wedding day" polka on his tuba- the perfect way to get up.
