Gypsy Wedding, Vintage-style!

Dear Reader,
A little while ago I lent some of my original vintage wedding dresses for a photo shoot by Christian and Erica from Christian Ward Photography.
Their idea was to recreate a vintage gypsy wedding. Not the 'big fat gypsy wedding' kind, but something soft and romantic from days gone by - based on real Romany traditions and recommendations from real-life travellers...
The results are beautiful and inspiring...
If you'd like to see more, there's a full feature on rockmywedding and I'll be showing more of their lovely images next week.

Thanks for dropping by, heavenlies.
Love
Helena

Unmined Costume Inspiration- Werewolf Bar Mitzvah

30 Rock offered a truly wonderful costume option, and it feels like a good way to support national treasure Tracy Morgan as he recovers from his car accident and hopefully sues the crap out of Walmart.

What You Need:
The song would probably help- Maybe a boombox
A Red jacket- the more Michael, the better
A Hairy Wig and Sideburns
Make-up to get yourself a nose
A Yamaka

Today's Viewing- Battleship Potemkin

I have watched parts of this multiple times in various film classes (Hello Odessa Steps), but wanted to watch it the whole way through. Pretty amazing, and there is a reason that this scene is basically the foundation of everything in film.

My 3 Favorite Food-Related Costumes

I feel like food costumes are pure happiness, because they are always silly and who doesn't love food? Not to mention, I bet it wouldn't be too hard to break some new ground, because there is a lot of food in this world. Here are some of my pinterest faves for yesterday. Why go get food when you can be food?
from
1. BLT- Best sandwich. Best costume. Best family? Just might be. Cannot get over the cuteness of this whole thing.

from
2. S'more- I love this one most because of the hat. It just cracks me up. I feel like the get-up might look especially cute on a really chubby baby.

from
3.  Pineapple- This is the most minimal and chic Halloween costume I have seen in my life, so kudos to her for making Halloween classy. Plus. the hat is amazing. I want to be this woman when I grow up. Plus, it is a great inspiration picture, because you can really think about other fruits that would work with a similar design idea.

Unmined Costume Ispiration- Yoko Ono as a Bad Dancer

This week, rather than sharing about the art objects on my mind, I thought I would share art references that would make AMAZING costumes, if you don't have any ideas (or you don't want to revisit Frida again, no matter how amazing she is). Art history costumes are already a thing (oh buzzfeed, you leave no stone unturned) but don't kid yourself, Lichtenstein makeup is played out. This year, I will be enjoying Halloween as Super Preggo or some sort of planet (we could go as the Arnolini portrait if I can get the Boy to shave off his eyebrows), but I want to share some ideas anyway.

First up, my beloved Yoko. I have seen John and Yoko couple costumes, but people, you are missing out on the most amazing fashion phase of Yoko- NOW. She is an 81 year old superstar who is still coining a new signature look. And she looks freaking amazing.

Still from Bad Dancer from exclaim.ca
 What you need:
Short Black Shorts
Sunglasses
A Jaunty Hat (it doesn't have to be a top hat, she rocks all kinds)
Panty Hose
Also, if you have a group, two people could also go as The Beastie Boys in the video.

Just be prepared to share joy wherever you go!

The Three Most Disturbing Costumes I Could Find on Pinterest

I love seeing all the crazy costumes that go up on Pinterest this time of year, but there are always creepy ones. These are some of the creepiest ones I have noticed in 2014:

from internetsiao.com
1. This family. What the heck!? I know Minecraft is getting super popular, but it really does creep me out. Also, how is the one riding the pig standing? Or is he sitting? Also, what if they are chased by bandits?

from  hellosociety.com
from coscouture.com
2. Random, Unidentifiable, Made-Up faces. The one of the top gives me nightmares (wow, it looks amazing and horrible all at once!), and then I can ponder what the hell is going on in the bottom picture. Is she some sort of lion? A cat who enjoys wigs? A fairy turning into a lion?

from blogs.babble.com
3. Children in Age Inappropriate Wear-I feel bad for this kid, because he looks old enough to e pumped for a costume he actually understands. This is funny, but I feel like he has sad eyes. Also, it is just creepy when this is so age inappropriate.

Honorable Mention: This guy. I find jokes like these genuinely creepy. The longer I look at this picture, the more I just want to punch him in the face. Please, just don't be this guy. You aren't clever, and nobody is impressed.
